Gambling Harm Awareness Week - 31st Oct- 6th Sept
With a focus on youth we partnered up with artist collective Elevate Minds and facilitated workshops on safe gaming with the tamariki of Te Rangi Aniwaniwa.
Gaming is the act of playing electronic games or video games. Excessive gaming can lead to addiction and can be a pre-cursor to online gambling.
The tamariki co-designed tikanga for safe gaming and came up with their own kupu “Kia Tika te Tākaro” which translates to Play Safe!
On Friday 4th September the tamariki of Te Rangi Aniwaniwa expressed their learnings through a live mural which was completed inside the school's gymnasium. The gymnasium is a hub for sport in Kaitaia and is used weekly by approximately 1000 people.
The tamariki who were involved in the workshops and the mural were presented with a t.shirt - “Kia Tika te Tākaro”.
Ngā Mihi to the staff and tamariki of Te Rangi Aniwaniwa for allowing Ngā Manga Pūriri to workshop and raise awareness around safe gaming.
